Ian Mankin Fabrics for bespoke Curtains and Roman Blinds

Ian Mankin is proudly British and their fabrics are designed and woven in their own weaving mill in Burnley, Lancashire. They have one of the last surviving cotton mills in Britain and are dedicated to continue the crafts and skills passed down over the generations. This was the birthplace of industrialised cotton weaving and they are committed to preserving this unique heritage. All their fabrics use 100% natural and recycled fibres in timeless and elegant designs.

Ian Mankin started the business in 1983, becoming well known for British woven fabrics in stripes, checks and plains. Their fabrics are regularly on our workroom table and if a client is looking for a classic stripe for example, Ian Mankin would no doubt be the first brand Jo would suggest.

The photo shows four of the fabrics we have used recently. Ian Mankin Dundee in Sage FA132-059, Herringbone in Whey FA283-204 (with a Samuel and Son border), Travertine Weave in Garnet FA330-212 and Blazer Stripe in Seagreen/Sage FA007-061. All of them looked fabulous when fitted, the latest project comprised two pairs of interlined patio door curtains and a single door curtain, plus three interlined Roman Blinds, which completely transformed an open plan kitchen area and looked absolutely stunning when installed.

For us, Ian Mankin represents the best of quality British manufacturing. The yarns for example are sourced from reputable and responsible supply partners, committed to industry best practice. The cottons are organic or recycled and they were the first cotton weaving mill in the UK to receive Organic Certification from the Soil Association for their production facility. The linen is from northern Europe where the flax plant requires no irrigation, fertilisers, herbicides or pesticides and produces no waste as all parts of the plant are used. There is much more on their website which is well worth a read:
